Sanding - Cleaning - Coating
Sanding
Far more effective than just pressure washing, sanding physically removes weathered coatings, mould and algae and exposes bare timber, primed and ready for the cleaning and coating stages.
I use a patented Aussie DeckSand system which utilises an abrasive brush, rather than traditional sand paper to quickly and effectively remove surface material without damaging screw heads, eating away your deck or creating mounds of dust.
Cleaning and Pre-Coating Treatment
Before coating, your deck must be treated with one or more specialised timber prep treatments to ensure proper adhesion.
These treatments are often overlooked, but getting them right is the key to a long lasting and beautiful finish.
Some example uses of pre-treatments are:
removing excess tannins and oils,
partially removing oxidation stains,
revitalising weathered timber,
evening out discolouration,
killing mould, lichen and algae growths,
and opening up the timber pores ready to accept a new coating.
Coating
Choosing the right coating for your deck is never simple. There are countless products and several completely different coating types.
No single product is perfect for every scenario, and many factors come in to play when choosing the right finish for your deck.
The level of exposure to sun and rain, overhanging vegetation, the species of timber, and your preferred aesthetic are all important factors that need to be considered before investing in a new coating.
Whether you’re topping up an existing finish or starting from scratch, I can help you choose the right product for your deck and apply it professionally so you don’t have to. A beautiful coating applied carefully makes all the difference!
